A life coach is a type of wellness professional who helps people make progress in their lives in order to attain greater fulfillment. Life coaches aid their clients in improving their relationships, careers, and day-to-day lives.

Many people seek out life coaches for guidance in navigating a significant life change, such as taking a new career. In plenty of cases, however, people turn to life coaches simply for help in building a happier, more meaningful life.

While life coaching and therapy are both focused on improving people’s well-being, there are distinct differences. Therapists require certain educational and license prerequisites to provide mental health care treatment.

Coaching, however, is focused on personal and professional development. Life coaches serve as guides through various aspects of life and is focused on personal growth and professional development.

Consulting is about advising, giving suggestions and/or information to client. Unlike coaching, the consultant tells the client what to do, rather than guiding them to find heir own answers. A life coach can give advice occasionally, but it is not the primary role of a coach. 

Coaching is about moving the client from where they are to where they want to be.
